    I have been using Updraft to back up several web sites to my Synology server via FTP, for about two months and it has worked perfectly. I retain 3 backups so it would delete the oldest backup and add a new one each day.

    About two days ago, I started getting error messages that the backups were unsuccessful. In checking into it, it appears the backup fails when it tries to send the backups to my server.

    I have confirmed that port 21 is still open on my router and I am able to connect to my server via FTP with Filezilla, using the same credentials as I use in Updraft. I have re-entered all of the credentials for the FTP backup but when I test the connection it fails.

    Any idea as to why this has suddently stopped working?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Please could you send us a copy of the latest full backup log?
    This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.
    The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Dear Bryle:

    Thanks for your response. You may download the latest log (from yesterday) which produced the same error message from this link.

    Hi,

    Thank you!

    The log shows that you have a large file within the “wp-content” folder.
    “0158.201 (0) [Warning] A very large file was encountered: dml-logs/medialibrary.zip (size: 405.1 Mb)”

    I would suggest checking if the file can be removed or you can just exclude it from the backup. Here’s how – https://updraftplus.com/faqs/how-can-i-exclude-particular-filesdirectories-from-the-backup/

    Byrle:

    Thanks for your continued support. I will follow your instructions and exclude the large file but I do not think that will resolve my issue.

    In checking the backup on my web host server, I can confirm that the backups are all completing correctly. Even with the large file.

    Where the job fails us when Updraft tries to ftp the files onto my private server.

    As I said in my original post, this has been working well for weeks and suddenly stopped last week. I can successfully connect to my server and to the web host server using FileZilla, but Updraft says it cannot connect when I try to test the connection. I have verified all of the credentials as being valid.

    Thoughts?

    Hi David,

    I understand that.

    Please can you run a new backup again and send us copy of the log? So we can investigate on the issue further.

    Thanks,

    I have updated Updraft to the latest version and still have the issue.

    I am still searching for the large file you suggested I exclude. That said, I have taken the liberty of submitting 2 log files. These are from 2 different sites that use Updraft, and use the same web host service. Both have worked perfectly in the past and suddenly stopped uploading the backup files to my server via FTP at the same time. Perhaps looking for some commonality between the two logs will be helpful.

    I have also included a screen shot of the error message I am getting in hopes it may help.

    Dear Bryle:

    I am making some progress but could still use your help.

    I have modified some settings on my router and server and can now connect from the Updraft plugin to my server via ftp, but am now getting this error message;

    FTP settings test result: Failure: we successfully logged in, but were not able to create a file in the given directory.

    Messages:
    * PHP event: code E_WARNING: ftp_nb_fput(): php_connect_nonb() failed: Operation now in progress (115) (line 93, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/ftp.class.php)
    * PHP event code E_WARNING: ftp_nb_fput(): Type set to l. (line 93, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/ftp.class.php)

    I have verified that the user credentials have read/write access to the directory on the server.

    Can you help me understand what these mean and what the next steps are to get this working?

    David

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

    Please can you check with your host/server admin if there are any firewall that is blocking the connection?

    Best Wishes,

    Bryle:

    We did speak with our hosting company. They confirmed there was no firewall in place and spent some time troubleshooting with me. Although they were able to recreate the error, they could not resolve the issue.

    As a last resort, have have replaced the Apple AirPort Extreme router with a D-Link router and that has apparently cleared the issue. The backups are once again working.

    I am still testing some of the sites to ensure the rotation is working correctly but at this point, I expect they are.

    I still don’t understand why the old router suddenly stopped working but at this point there seems little reason to research it further.

    Thank you for all your help on this matter. I will mark it as resolved.

    Regards,

    David
