I’m not a sophisticated user, so forgive me if I don’t understand some of the basics many of you take for granted, but I’ve been maintaining our site for years now without problems and suddenly I am unable to log in via Fetch. In the beginning I was very frustrated with the WordPress user interface and so started using Fetch to upload my files. Suddenly, however, Fetch gives me a message:

    Server responded: “Login incorrect.”

I am still able to log in to WordPress admin, but perhaps because I’ve not done it for so long I have not been successful in uploading my sound files and getting them to work using that method. But anyway, I really need to get back to using Fetch.

I wasn’t the one who set up the website originally, I just upload my files and occasionally add or edit pages, so I’m not even sure what people are talking about when they refer to different “versions of WordPress”.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • May need to check your hosting control panel (or talk to your host) to make sure you are using the correct FTP login and password.

If you don’t know your WordPress admin login, then you will want to use one of the procedures listed in Resetting_Your_Password to reset your password. Your login to your blog is at https://www.thetransplantlog.com/wp-login.php

As for upgrading your blog, you will want to review Upgrading WordPress before starting the process.

Thanks for your reply. I am using the same ftp login and password i’ve always used, and in fact have tried resetting the password from within wordpress admin (or more accurately, i re-entered the same password). As i said, i have no problem with my admin login. Some of the issues i see on the forum to do with ftp access seem to be caused when people have upgraded, so i’m assuming that upgrading wordpress will not solve my problem.

Nothing has changed, as far as the site setup goes, since the last time i logged in via Fetch to upload files.

I’ve also tried a different ftp application, with no luck. And of course i’ve tried connecting to other sites via Fetch, and it worked fine.

    I suggested:

This is not to be confused with your WordPress login. If necessary, talk to your host.

I’m aware that the login is not the same as the wordpress one, and I’m trying the same ftp login and password that has always worked in the past. But i shall try to get in touch with the host (if i can get that info from the person who set it all up for us!) to see if they can shed any light.

It seems that the host reset all the passwords “for security reasons”, so i’m hoping when i get the host login details from the guy who set up the site the problem will be solved. Fingers crossed, thanks for your help.
