Fukasawa: Recent Posts issue

Hello! I am using the Fukasawa theme as a portfolio site. All of my projects are “posts.” You can see them listed as a portfolio on my homepage, but I also like to have them linked in the sidebar so that when someone is on a project page, they can see links to other projects. I use the Recent Posts widget for this. My only issue is that it doesn’t show the most recent post (aka project), which really bugs me. I tried several of the Recent Post plugins, which allow you to check a box to show the most recent post, but the issue with those is they don’t take the beautiful styles from my theme, which I have also written custom CSS for.

Can anyone suggest an easy fix for this? Is there a small bit of code I could alter to make my most recent post show in recent posts? Or is this some sort of bug?
