Full name remains a required field

For sites that favor using fullname everywhere, there is far less emphasis placed on fullname. I noticed fullname remains a mandatory field (this places a lot of emphasis on this field when it is used so little).

Shouldn’t the fullname field be made optional? The profile page could fall back on the username until (or if) a user decides to add a fullname.
