I have posts showing on most of my content pages and I want to only show the excerpt. It used to work and I didn’t notice that now some pages are fine while others have the full posting showing despite the option being checked to only show an excerpt. I checked to make sure excerpt text was entered.

https://www.roamsolar.com is the public website and you can see Repairs and Design-Install pages show problems and its only the last posting in the right margin. The page Operations show the posts normally, like I wanted.

    thanks,
    Dave

    I have two ideas:

    A) Do you use this option: ‘Allow HTML in excerpt’? If yes, can you unchecked it?

    B) I commited code in the 4.6 branch, we want release tomorrow: https://github.com/tiptoppress/category-posts-widget/tree/4.6

There is a new option in General area ‘hide social buttons on widget output’. Can you download the code (descriped below) from GitHub (attention: use the 4.6 branch) and copy it to your widget folder, than check/use this option?

Are you familair with GitHub? Because you can download the code there (https://github.com/tiptoppress/category-posts-widget/tree/4.6) and copy it to your plugin folder ([your-wp-installation]/wp-content/plugins/category-posts-widget) to your wordpress installation.

Has this been fixed in the newest update? Is HTML allowed in the excerpt?

@JustDuckyDesign, we have decided it is not sustainable to have this feature and removed the GUI for it on 4.6.1 (should still work for now for people that already have it configured).

You can read why over here https://tiptoppress.com/allow-html-excerpt-feature-will-deprecated-next-4-6-release/

    Q. 1.) I don’t know if it is fixes for solarxprt, because he hadn’t updated to 4.6.1. And I couldn’t really say, when solarxprts issue occures, somethimes normal somtimes not?

    Q. 2.) We deleted this feature (allowed HTML in the excerpt) in the 4.6.1.

Have you a speciall questions about this topics: Allow html in the excerpt, hide social buttons in the excerpt, … ?

I have found that if I use Page Builder by SiteOrigin on the posts page – then no matter what I do – it will not show just an excerpt and will not show any “…more” link.

Are there any plans to address this bug?

    1. this sounds like a different issue, so please open a different thread…

    2. The plugin shows what WordPress defines as an excerpt which is
    – If there is a manual excerpt, that is fully the excerpt, its length is not taken into consideration and a “more” indication will not be generate. You can even use HTML in this excerpt and it will not be filtered out
    – If there isn’t a manual excerpt, all html elements are being stripped and the length of text is calculated to fit the relevant settings. This is the case in which you may see the “more” indication.

So the question here is probably do you have a manual excerpt, or is siteorigin or another plugin you use generate it,

We will look into it over the weekend to make sure we don’t have a bug, but I am pretty confident that it either lies someplace else, or there is more to your specific setting then the simple description.

On a positive note, we do plan to make creation of excerpt a more robust experience by adding an option to do our own excerpting which ignores other system settings, but we are not going to introduce new features like that before the 4.7 release development cycle starts which will probably happen only at September.

@JustDuckyDesign: We test with SiteOrigion and there PageBuilder plugin and for us all works well.

    • Please, can you ask SiteOrigin about this issue? If they make for all added filters a clean remove.
    • Sometimes it’s a CSS issue. If you want you can leave us a link.
