• Hey, does anyone know of any places that hire people with WP experience specifically?

I’ve been looking for work for a few months mainly with a focus on WordPress development, theme design, etc. on countless classified sites (like Craigslist and Monster for example) and besides the odd WP project or brief freelance opening, there haven’t been really many postings consisting of full-time positions being available.

Just curious if anyone here works full-time for an organization where their position deals exclusively with WP, and maybe how they found such a job. Did you find it by searching through listings of positions on a site like Craigslist, or did you know a current employee whom referred you to the company.

If not, is there really an industry for this form of work? Because I haven’t seen too much available. Or maybe I’m just not looking in the right places for openings. Basically, what strategies did you use?

    Thanks

  • If I were you I’d try Odesk, I’ve gotten 2 temp jobs off of that, not necessarily full-time, though my job involves both launching, and maintaining the backend of wordpress, along with doing a lot of social media and search engine optimization.

Take all the wordpress related tests to show off your expertise and you shouldn’t have a problem getting hired, although on a lot of freelance sites, people tend to look for people who will work real cheap (i.e. India or other foreign country english speaking help).

Thanks for the tip Patrick, I’ll check out Odesk.

I should state too that I already found a few Freelance projects on Freelancer.com, those weren’t too bad to find. But they were project-based, one time situations that only earn income once.

I was just looking for some more long-term positions organizations may have available with WP, as I just recently gradated from college and considered looking for careers that deal with WP, basically.

I have obtained long term work with WordPress via ODesk (hourly contracts) however I must add that it is a freelancer and it is most unsual to secure a “full time” position with all the benefits those bring.

Curious have you looked at https://jobs.wordpress.net?

That was actually one of the first places I checked, and there were barely any full-time positions listed there. The majority of them were project based which you could find on most freelance sites.

The reason why you can’t find any FT WP jobs is probably because:

    1. Companies who need a blog only require very short-term help (and that’s only IF they’re internal department can’t do a simple WP install and config).

    2. Agencies and consulting companies whose clients are enterprises can’t make much money off WP.

    3. WP is meant to be simple to use for the most part. Other than a handful of advanced topics, any half-hearted amateur should be able to run a WP site with ease.
