Full width in Canvas theme failure…

I set up a new personal blog with Canvas (child theme). I have the layout in Canvas set to single wide page no columns.
I followed this from Woothemes to break out of the 960px width for posts: https://www.woothemes.com/2015/01/write-stories-instead-of-code-five-steps-to-storytelling-with-canvas/
I added snippet plugin to add the php code also.Still not able to go full width. I tried without the child and Canvas only. I even tried with the Aesop theme! Still no full width. I tried the plugin from github.
I have run out of ideas. site is jonbraeley.com
