Full width site layout no longer removes sidebar
-
Hi,
Since the introduction of the new customiser, I can no longer remove the sidebar. I have changed the site layout to full width, but the sidebar is still present. Can someone please advise?
All the best, Mike.

Hello @mikepalmer,
Thank you for reaching out.
It’s possible that you set a “Right Sidebar” layout in the OceanWP Settings on the backend of that page. Please check the page layout as explained here: https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/828-general-main-oceanwp-settings.
Note: If you have any cache plugin or server cache(CDN / Browser Cache and Cookies and …), you need to clear its cache contents or disable them to see your changes. Also, remember to click on the regenerate all assets file and data in Elementor > Tools(if you have Elementor).
Let me know if you have any questions about the steps above.
I hope this helps.
Best regardsHi
I have Default Template set under Page Attributes and Default set under Main Content Layout. I can always change that, but it would mean changing it separately on each page. I want it to respond to the layout set by the customiser.
I have caching disabled.
All the best, Mike.
Hello @mikepalmer,
Thank you for reaching out,
I fully examined the issue you have raised on this topic and could not see it on my end. How can we replicate your steps to arrive at the issue on a fresh WordPress installation?
Kindly follow the steps explained here:
https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/898-customizer-site-style-settings#Site-Layout-panel-O4nEGI hope it helps.
Best RegardsHi @skalanter ,
That is most peculiar. I have just done a fresh WordPress installation here: https://test2.warminsterwebsites.co.uk/, set OceanWP to be active theme, installed and activated the OceanWP plugin, created a home page and the settings so that the home page is displayed as a static page. As you can see, the sidebar is visible. When I look at the customiser, the site layout is set to the first one (without the sidebar). What am I doing wrong? I am happy to give you access to the site.
All the best, Mike.

Hello @mikepalmer,
The default layout is a right sidebar, did you try to change it and re-change it to full width and then save the customizer? In the next, check the front.
It is possible you didn’t save the layouts. Please change it and save, then refresh and change it to full width again and re-save all changes again.

Best RegardsHi @skalanter ,
I have not created an account for you.
I have tried each of the layouts, saving them and viewing. They all display the sidebar. With the old version of the customiser, the wide layout did not show the sidebar, and your documentation shows the wide layout without a sidebar.
I have taken screenshots, but I am not sure how to share them.
All the best, Mike.
Hello @mikepalmer,
Thank you for reaching out,
I think I got it, you didn’t set a home page (from WP Dashboard > Settings > Reading), and the current home page on your website is an archive of posts.
Since you deleted Hello World! default post so I thought that’s a regular page.In this case, you must change the blog archive layouts:
https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/902-customizer-blog#Archives-Layout-8nto0
and for the single blog post: https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/902-customizer-blog#Layout-Settings-P3ilU___________

Best RegardsHi @skalanter
I did set a home page. I already have Settings > Reading set to the Home page. Its just that there is nothing on the home page.
All the best, Mike.
Here is an image of the home page set to Wide: https://postimg.cc/GB7GJX7Y
Hi @skalanter ,
I have resolved this now by examining other sites that I had created with the old customiser. I needed to adjust the PAGE LAYOUT as described here: https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/899-customizer-pages-special-pages, not the SITE LAYOUT as described here: https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/898-customizer-site-style-settings.
To be honest, I preferred the old version of the customiser. I have used OceanWP on about 35 websites.
Problem solved. Thanks.
All the best, Mike.
Hello @mikepalmer,
Thank you for reaching out and sorry for the trouble.
I’m glad that you were able to resolve that.
Kindly explain to us step by step how we can reproduce the issue so we can re-create it somewhere other than your website. You can share a short video and reproduce the issue in a brand new WordPress, so we can understand and check it better.
You can upload your files using one of the following online services: https://drive.google.comPlease keep us posted,
Thank you
Best RegardsHi @skalanter ,
Its not a fault that needs reproducing. I was confused by the images that get presented to you when you select “Site Layout” in the customiser. They imply that “Wide” and “Boxed” do not have a sidebar, but “Separate” does. Hence I thought that “Site Layout” was where you go to hide the sidebar. Instead the correct place to go is “Page Layout”.
All the best, Mike.
Hello @mikepalmer,
I’m glad that you were able to resolve that.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if there is anything else we can help you with.Best Regards
