    Hi

    I hope you can help.

I was trying to update the function.php yesterday following the WordPress beginner step by step guide but it has done something dodgy and now whenever I try to log in to the admin site nothing loads, it is just a blank screen….

    Please help!!

I contacted Bluehost first and this is what they said

“I checked the error_log for your website anoutdoorlifestyleblog.com and it shows
PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pictorico_widgets_init() (previously declared in /home1/anoutdoo/public_html/wp-content/themes/pictorico-wpcom/functions.php:83) in /home1/anoutdoo/public_html/wp-content/themes/pictorico-wpcom/functions.php on line 240.

The issue is with the Theme ‘pictorico-wpcom’ enabled for your website. Please reinstall the theme or contact the Theme vendor for further resolution on this issue.”

    Thanks

    Harriet

You should never edit the original theme files, and most especially never touch the functions.php file. ??

I suggest you re-download a fresh copy of the Pictorico theme and reinstall it.

The best way to make changes to a theme is to use a child theme, so your tweaks won’t be overwritten when updating the theme. Here are some guides in case you haven’t made one before:

    Hi Kathryn

    Thank you for your reply.

I have already tried deleting and reinstalling the theme. Both pictorio and other themes including twenty theme and point theme and nothing happens…

I have also tried deleting all the plugins to see if that would fix the styling and again nothing happens.

I’m at bit of a loss knowing what to do now. I definitely won’t touch the function.php again don’t worry!!

Is there any way I can pay someone to fix it? Just feel like that’s a lot of hard work down the drain ??

    Thanks

    Harriet

If switching to a default theme like Twenty Fifteen and deactivating all your plugins still doesn’t allow you to log into your admin area, then something in your WordPress install may be wonky.

You could try asking your host if they would reinstall WordPress itself for you if you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, but just make sure they do not touch your database or wp-content folder so your content and theme are preserved. Making a backup of your database and your entire wp-content folder is also recommended before any reinstall.

You could certainly hire a WordPress consultant if you want, that’s up to you.
