    Hello,
    I have two questions:

    1. Am I correct that this is not the plugin for me when I want to have a different version of my website (different homepage and menu, less pages) for mobile? That it only adds the splash screen and ‘add to home screen’ option?

    2. It doesn’t seem to be working for my website: https://www.tvwilskracht.nl, do you know why?

    Thanks

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @ehoever

My name is Arun. Thanks for checking out SuperPWA!

You are correct about the fact that SuperPWA doesn’t take over the theme and display its own theme. PWA specific themes is something that will come as an option later on.

Apart from adding the splash screen and the A2HS prompt, SuperPWA makes the app install-able, caches content offline and makes the app available offline.

    2. It doesn’t seem to be working for my website: https://www.tvwilskracht.nl, do you know why?

I tested it on one of my test devices and the A2HS prompt showed up as expected – https://i.imgur.com/a7evYv5.jpg

The prompt is a little different in Chrome 68, you can see the difference here: https://superpwa.com/superpwa-1-9-chrome-mini-infobar-ready

Which browser did you use to test? If you are using Chrome, please follow our detailed guide on how to test your PWA on Chrome correctly.

Not all browsers have a native A2HS prompt.

Please note that your Application Short Name is longer than 12 characters. It should be lesser than or equal to 12. Please update it accordingly.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks for your reply. I should think a bit about using a PWA, as I want the ‘app’ to be a little different from the website.

I did use chrome and safari to check, I have to read your link with explanation later. What I don’t understand is: I can’t expect my viewers to have the correct exact browser, right? Will only a few people see the message?

    Hello @ehoever

What I don’t understand is: I can’t expect my viewers to have the correct exact browser, right? Will only a few people see the message?

So PWA is a hugely browser supported technology. This can be seen as the beauty of it in many aspects and limitations in other. But as more and more browsers add support for service workers, the gap will be smaller and smaller.

The prompt is actually displayed by the browser itself, which means it will show up only on supported browsers. Not all browsers have the prompt / message.

I hope that explains it. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Best regards.
