Since the installation of this plugin in March 2023, we have been receiving about 5 or 6 tranasctional issues per day where users are regularly reporting:

‘Error processing payment. Reason: Funding Instrument In The PayPal Account Was Declined By The Processor Or Bank, Or It Can’t Be Used For This Payment’

The customers are confused as they mention their paypal accounts work on every other site.

This has been going on steadily for about 4 weeks now and was wanting to know if this is a known issue.

    Many thanks for your assistance.

    Hi @mediachip

This has been going on steadily for about 4 weeks now and was wanting to know if this is a known issue.

This is not a known issue and likely not an issue related to the Braintree plugin. That is a direct response from Braintree’s API’s when trying to process the payment.

Here is a link to an explanation of that error code.

I would recommend contacting Braintree support and seeing if they can provide you with additional information about that decline code. Let us know what they come back with.

    Kind Regards,

As a sanity check, you could run our PayPal plugin alongside the other Braintree payment methods to see if the decline rate decreases. One of your customers that had a decline could then try using PayPal again. This could help narrow down if the issue could be between the Braintree and PayPal link that exists within Braintree.

You could then share that info with Braintree support.

    Kind Regards

We don’t have any reports from other merchants at this time indicating they are experiencing an elevated rate of declines. Many of our merchants process a high rate of transactions and would send us a support ticket pretty quickly.

I think that sanity check defeats the purpose of using BrainTree, but it’s worth a shot. I have contacted Braintree in any case.
