• This morning I deleted a testblog in my ISP space, and dropped all the tables. Nothing of WP was left there at all.
(I’ve done this next bit 6 times now, with identical results each time)
    Create new directory.
    Upload WP
    Upload wp-config
Run install – all goes well
    BUT
1 – When I view the new install, I see an old stylesheet I used.
2 – If I go to wp-login.php, and hover the ‘Back to blog’ link, that points back to my real site (Tamba2) and logging in takes me to Tamba2
3 – Viewing source shows my tamba2 url in there
4 – My testblog there did not have any link to Tamba2
    BUT
Thinking I had messed up the version I uploaded (I have several versions of mingus laying about the place), I downloaded the latest nightly (which I have not used before) and used that as the full upload. The same behaviour is apparent, but it *is* the index.php from 1.3pre-a.
    Tech support are mystified.
If I download wp-layout.css, it is the default one. Yet looking at the blog, it’s not.
Each time I have tried, I have used a new directory name.
Each time I have tried, I have used different table prefix’s after dropping the previous table.
It’s probably an issue with something on my machine, but it’s a wierd one.
    Unzipper: winrar
    Ftp: FileZilla
    Any ideas ?

  • Now podz. This will be no help to you at all but I have experienced similar *mysterious* XFiles type persistence in the face of all reason and logic. Is it a cache thing? I am stumped.

    I pondered cache……but where ?
I downloaded FileZilla to use instead of the ftp I used first thinking that may do it (odd that an ftp would though)
Website ? Could be .. I have no access to all the folders which I do on my domain.
    Gremlins ??

On the 13th, I deleted everything from the wp install. All files. The database. Everything.
I just downloaded the latest nightly.
    Installed it.
    I see an old stylesheet.
The login page leads me to my real domain, not the ISP space where this blog is installed.
I cleared the cache, and tried again. In the activity bar (bottom left in FF) I see my ISP address flicker a few times, then it goes straight to Tamba2. I have no redirects from ISP to T2.
Can anyone think of something I could try to solve this ?

podz have you got IE 6 installed by any chance?

It’s in the machine …… wife uses it sometimes, and I only ever do to check CSS.

I have just had a really mysterious experience with supernatural file persistency. If I publish the details the forum will think I have lost my marbles (if they dont already). But a new installed index file seemed to have a kind of memory of what it was like before and reordered the menu. Nothing to do with CSS. Wierd.

There is much strangeness surrounding this ….. I’ll try an install from a different machine later and see what happens.

    Sorted :))))
Somehow, the site url was being entered into the _options table as my tamba2 address. I altered that to the correct one, and all is good.
Odd though – it ‘guessed’ everything correctly when being installed.
Right, I’m off to play then ??

    Cookies.
Clear all the cookies, and the problems go away.
(Mind you, so do all the logins you’ve got on a zillion other sites ?? )
