Fuzzy profile pictures

  • I’m hoping someone might be able to help. Myself and a colleague are putting together a website which makes use of the ‘Ultimate Members’ plug-in. I’m not sure if there’s a conflict or a glitch between different plug-ins used on the site and the overall theme but on some pages the profile mugshots of members are very fuzzy while others are not. I have checked the settings on the plugin and these are set and saved to image quality 100. A few weeks ago these profile pictures were displaying perfectly. Is it possible there is an issue between the current version of WordPress and the plugin? We are using version 5.3.2 of WordPress and version 2.1.2 of the ‘Ultimate Member’ plug-in. Another problem seems to be that we can no longer upload replacement profile pictures. They appear to upload but then stop. I have very little technical knowledge and may have to try and simplify the website and start again with something easier if we cannot resolve this. We do not have the budget to pay for ongoing annual technical support. I have noted there is a warning that the plugin has not been tested with this current version.

    I’d be very grateful for any ideas. Unfortunately, the pages are password protected and I cannot send the problem URL’s on this public forum. Nor can I seem to be able to attached screen shots of the problem pages. Thanks Andrew Huggett

    Hi @awhuggett,

    Do you have any image optimization plugin installed?
    This issue can be due so some conflicts with your theme or one of your plugins.
    Can you please do a quick conflict test and see if this issue goes away?
    Here is the doc on how to do a conflict test if you are not sure how to do it.

    Thanks for your response – have tried reinstalling on a simple theme (2020) with no image optimisation plug-in there has been no change to the problem. Troubleshooting mode was enabled and all plug-ins turned off. Image cropping box sometimes appears, sometimes not.‘Change your photo’ does not show selected image after upload which has failed.

    I was looking for an answer to this as I was having a similar issue. Some photos suddenly became blurry, and others did not. No new uploads. No image optimization plugins. I also changed the quality to 100 in the settings and the default profile image to original size. Nothing.

    SOLVED: For some reason after a major update some of the individual forms change their Profile Photo Size to 40×40. You have to go into each individual form and change it to original size on the “customize this form” box on the right-hand side of the page.

    @ultimatemembersupport, maybe we can figure out why this is defaulting back to 40×40 after every update so this doesn’t continue happening?
