Configuring the settings is by trial and error, hence I recommend usage of this plugin only for developers and advanced users.

Layout issues, usually occur because of undefined javascript errors (check google chrome console) or some specificity issue on css.

You can solve most of them, by using the ignore list.

But unfortunately, you still need to have some knowledge to reconfigure the plugin.
It’s not a plugin you simply install and it works 100% of the time.
Its an optimization tool for advanced users and developers.

Thank you for your response but as I am not an ‘advanced user’ how do you suggest I go about this. I feel that you will find that most people who are having trouble aren’t advanced users.

I understand, but speed optimization is a job for an advanced user or a developer.
The plugin description also states it’s aimed at developers and advanced users.

There is no defined method that can be applied to all sites.
It’s not that I don’t want to help, but rather it requires trial and error and a bit of knowledge about the settings.

You can solve most of them, by using the ignore list, which is explained on the faq.

Of course, anyone is free to install the plugin and play around with the settings, follow the faqs and try to do the speed optimization, but using a plugin it’s still an automated process.

Ideally, you would hire a developer to use the plugin and on top of that, there is additional work that they may need to do (usually coding, server configurations, image compression, etc), to perform the remaining speed optimization and get top scores.
