G P Extras goes on blog page instead of home page

In general, this behavior is correct.
If you did setup a static WordPress page as your home page (via “Settings > Reading”), then this page cannot be used as a “widgetized home page”.

The widgetized home page goes for the regular “blog post listing” which is the default of Prose – but only if these areas are activated in my plugin settings and if widgets are placed in.

My plans are to somehow also make those static home pages widgetized – but that is not so easy to figure out. I hope that I will come up with something in the next version – at least there will be better description on the settings page :-).

I cannot give any date on a next version or so…

So my advice for now is to either setup a the blog posts as home page and then widgetize via my plugin or use a static home page by intention in the regular way.

I have another question for you. the person who told me of your plugin said it could also give me a way to create 3 boxes across the top of the homepage to go to different parts of my website. You know, there’s a picture, a few words of text and a button or link to take them where you want them to go. It sort of serves the same function as the slider but they don’t change all the time.

Can I do that with GP Extras?

Also, With the slider, what happens when someone views on a mobile. Do the text box and link go away?

Yes, that should be possible and not too difficult ??

There are 2 alternatives:

1) using a regular page, and have the content within using Genesis column classes — then add those page via “Genesis Featured Page” widget to the homepage top widget section.

2) using “Text Widgets”
one text widget with column classes in it,
OR
three text widgets that are then styled with custom css to get the column effect

The 1) alternative is what I would try at first ??

It should easily be possible add more than one widget to the homepage top section, so you can experiment with it.

If you have trouble adding column classes to your pages you might use some helper plugin like this one, which is specific for Genesis: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/genesis-easy-columns/ — best for visual editor usage!

For the slider on mobile:
it always depends on which Slider you are using, the official “Genesis Responsive Slider” https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/genesis-responsive-slider/ has those options built in you can adjust in the slider plugin settings easily. Other well-coded sliders like Soliloquy may also have similar options.

My plugin just provides the widget areas if wanted – use of slider and which one is fully up to the user ?? (I cannot support the hundreds of slider plugins out there, way too many…)

For those wanting these widget areas on a static home page, edit includes/gpex-template-loader.php. Find the function ddw_gpex_template_loader, and change is_home() to is_front_page().
