I set up Google Site Kit because GA4 and GTM stopped working a while ago. The setup shows that it is properly implemented, but when testing, Tag Assistant says it cannot connect. I have already performed all the necessary updates. If I check the GA4 data stream, it says “Data collection has been active in the last 48 hours,” which is not true because I have no data in GA4. If I check GTM, it only works and connects when I am logged in to WordPress; as soon as I log out of the WordPress admin, GTM stops working.

I don’t know what else to do; I have tried multiple solutions, from adding the code manually to following the Google Site Kit step-by-step, but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for reaching out @dbpoqlo. So we can determine more on this and ensure you can complete Tag Manager setup, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. When you mention “The setup shows that it is properly implemented, but when testing, Tag Assistant says it cannot connect.” Are you seeing this within tagmanager.google.com, or a message within Site Kit that results in you not being able to complete setup? Note that Tag Manager and Google Analytics are different services. There is an active Tag Manager snippet placed on your site via Site Kit, as there is a Google Analytics snippet that is firing.

I also checked your site both manually and using the tagassistant.google.com service. From doing so I can see that site visits are recording. If you’re reporting that you have not data appearing within Site Kit, it’s possible that you or someone else has changed the connected Google Analytics property.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

Thank you for your response. I really don’t know what is happening but GA4 and Site Kit are ok, but I don’t see any data.
    1. I have filled the form with all the info.
    2. I’ve checked this within tagmanager.google.com and Site Kit. When checking Site Kit everything appears to be working. But when I check GTM, it only works when I’m logged into WordPress, as soon as I log out, GTM stops working and it says that we don’t have any tag even though there is.

I’m leaving a few screenshots, maybe that can help.

Hope that helps! Thank you very much.

Thanks for the update @dbpoqlo. When you mention you don’t see any data, are you not seeing any data from the Site Kit dashboard or from analytics.google.com? Unfortunately in the screenshots you kindly prepared and shared, they don’t including any Analytics dashboard. To troubleshoot this further, please share a screen recording of your experience when visiting the Site Kit dashboard. You can use a service such as Loom to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately.

Within the recording, please click on the ”Source: Analytics” link within the Site Kit dashboard, so we can see whether data matches that from the Analytics directly. I ask as Site Kit pulls information from a users Analytics account and displays it within the plugin dashboard.?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Thank you again @jamesosborne. I get what you are saying now. So, it seems that Site Kit is running without any problems and recording data. I have filled the form again and included a screen recording.

I’ve noticed that the website is not recording all of the data accurately. It is unusual for our site to receive only one or no visits per day when we previously averaged hundreds. Is there a possibility that there is an issue I might be overlooking?

Many thanks for sharing @dbpoqlo, very useful to see what’s occurring. From the tests and checks I’ve been performing I don’t see anything unusual with your Site Kit setup, or Analytics placement. What may have happened that could have resulted in a drop in traffic, is that you may have had a Consent Management Plugin active, which means users would not be tracked in Analytics until they grant consent. Another possibility is that you may have had Consent Mode active within Site Kit, meaning visits from the EEU, UK and Switzerland would not be tracked until they grant consent. None of these are impacting traffic right now, but it may have been the case.

As we’re limited to Site Kit queries here in the support forums, you may wish to reach out to the product experts over at the Analytics Help Center for any further queries on Analytics specifically. What you’re seeing within the Site Kit dashboard is pulled from your Google Analytics account via the service API.

You’re right! We were able to fix it, it was related to the consent management. Thank you very much for your time and help.

    Have a great day!

Glad to hear it @dbpoqlo, thanks for the update. If you have any further queries be sure to reach out.

@dbpoqlo are you able to share any more about what you did with the consent settings to resolve this? From your description, it sounds like I’m running into the same issue as you were. Thanks for any info you can offer!

@enaftalin We have a guide on the Site Kit website in relation to Consent Mode. Alternatively, feel free to open an individual support topic if you’re facing any issues or if you have any questions. Share any errors or details of what you’re facing and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you.

@enaftalin Sure! Apparently, there was an issue between Site Kit and Cookie Bot, so you may want to check your consent/cookie plugin if you have one. We uninstalled Cookie Bot, clear the cache and the plugin data and Site Kit started working again. Also, GTM and all of the other tools.
Let me know if you are able to solve it.
