• Hello,

My old thread from four and a half months ago has been completely lost. The problem there was only the second one. That’s why I’m trying it again here. The following issue occurs on all versions after 3.41. I have therefore been using a downgrade to version 3.41 for some time.

All versions after 3.41 destroy the gallery file paths. The galleries then open in the wrong album, apparently always in the newest album that is currently on the site.

Let me visualize it with screenshots.

This is how it correctly worked before 3.57. Lets open the gallery “Impressionen” of the album “Mera Luna Festival – Teil 2” by clicking on the “Impressionen”-folder:

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/1-korrekter-Link.jpg

The gallery opened itself within the correct album “Mera Luna Festival – Teil 2”:

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/2-korrekte-ansicht.jpg

Now lets try it with any version after 3.41 – no matter whether 3.57 or 3.59.2.

By placing the mouse over the “Impressionen”-folder we already see that the file link is totally distorted and redirects us to wrong album (the newest album on the day of the screenshot).

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/3-falscher-dateipfad.jpg

The result: The gallery does NOT open itself within the correct album, it redirects us to the article with the wrong album.

Every single of our approcimately 2.800 galleries forwards us to a wrong album: The newest one on the page or at least the newest one of that year.

The last feedback I got from NextGen was a post by Mr. Ceban over three months ago. He stated that this is a bug and the dev team will have it fixed. Since then, several updates have been released, which unfortunately have not solved the problem. I haven’t heard anything from NextGen either.

Therefore I would like to remind you of the problem again, I am forced to still use version 3.41.

    Greetings,

    SFrueh

    Hey @sfrueh

I recall a similar issue yes, but its fix was released already as far as I remember:

    V3.57 – 01.10.2024

    • Fixed: Albums were generating an incorrect URL to their child galleries.

You should try removing your plugin, then using Transients Manager delete all transients, and using Docket Cache clear both OPcache and ObjectCache, then install NextGEN again. See how that goes. (There were some persistent server cache issue that did not reflect the update changes unless purged manually for this fix).

You can also ask your hosting company for a staging site to perform the test without fiddling with your live site.

Please keep me posted. Have a good one.

    Hello @jaimeimagely ,

I did as you said: Delete NextGEN, delete transients, clear OPcache, clear ObjectCache, install NextGEN.

    It had no effect.

Any gallery of 2019 will open in the last album of 2019
Any gallery of 2020 will open in the last album of 2020
Any gallery of 2021 will open in the last album of 2021

    … and so on.

I did the backup of my full website again to get back to NextGEN 3.41.

    Any other suggestions?

    Greetings

    Hello @jaimeimagely ,

with the release of version 3.59.3 i tried again. It does not work, the gallery URLs are still incorrect.

Yes I deleted all transients and yes I used Docket Cache correctly.

While experimenting, I discovered something. Maybe this will help solve the problem. The creation of incorrect gallery / album URLs is somehow linked to the wordpress article category.

Lets use this as our test gallery. Here is how it works correctly:
    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/06-2024-1-vor-update.jpg

After the update we are completely off track. The wrong gallery path links to the latest album used in the same wordpress article category.
    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/06-2024-2-nach-update.jpg

So lets just experiment and move the article with our test gallery to a different wordpress article category. And we have the pattern discovered!

Please take a look at this and help me. I use NextGEN since 2012. My entire website is based on it. It would be months and months of work to migrate everything to another gallery plugin. I really want to stay with NextGEN.

Im back on NextGEN 3.41 again, the last version that worked.

    Help appreciated.

    Hi @sfrueh

I would like to try to replicate this issue on a test server and see if we can figure out what happens.

We have not had any other reports of this.

I see you mention “article” and “article category”, are you using a custom post type called article or are you referring to just regular WordPress posts?

Could you please give me detailed steps to reproduce the issue? I need to be sure I understand what is happening.

It seems to me you have let’s say 2 posts with a category, post 1 is the oldest and post 2 is the newest, so when you try to open the album in post 1, it directs to the album in post 2 which is the latest, basically everytime you add a post with an album to a category all previous albums will break and point to the one you just inserted?

    Please clarify.

    Thanks

    Hello @jaimeimagely ,

with article I meant the regular WordPress post, with article category the regular WordPress category. I don’t use anything custom whatsoever.

Your description of the problem is absolutely correct.
The album of every post in a category breaks and points to the newest album post of the same category.

The only “step to reproduce” this is updating NextGEN to a version newer than 3.41 . I have not changed anything and never had the problem before.

    Hello @jaimeimagely ,

two months later please allow me to ask: Did the test run on your test server lead to any solutions?

Problem still present in the new 3.59.5 version. Albums still generating an incorrect URL to their child galleries. Still depending on using the 3.41 version of NextGEN that is one year old now.
