Sure, you can do a lot with a bit of CSS.

.ngg-albumoverview.default-view .ngg-album-compact{
    box-shadow: none !important;
    box-shadow: none !important;
    background: transparent !important;
}

You can also edit the thumbnail size by editing the thumbnail dimensions.

Go to Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS
Copy and paste this code.
Note: Do not forget to click on “Publish.”
