• I am running WP 3.9 and have just upgraded NextGen to Version 2.0.61. Now, when I go to the site and click on a thumbnail image it loads into its own page, instead of having a pop-up Lightbox effect.

Since the NextGen upgrade, when I go to the Admin panel and try to look at ‘Gallery Settings’ or ‘Other Options’, those pages are blank. That means I cannot put the Lightbox effects back. Everything else in NextGen seems to be okay and I can upload images.

I have tried deactivating plugins, but it makes no difference.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks.

@tig1960 – Have you tried manually re-installing the plugin via FTP over-writing the existing installation? Something may be missing and that could help to sort out the problem if that is the case.

    Thanks!

Thanks, will try. Are there any files I shouldn’t overwrite?

@tig1960 – I would recommend over-writing everything in the /nextgen-gallery/ folder … thanks for asking for the clarification!

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t need to overwrite, as I’ve just updated to the latest NextGen version (2.0.63), but it hasn’t helped – still no ‘Gallery Settings’ or ‘Other Options’ pages.

Not sure what to do next? It wouldn’t be so bad, perhaps, if I could just turn the Lightbox functionality on, but I’m stuck with enlarged images loading into their own window.

Not sure what else I can do….

@tig1960 – I agree the update should have accomplished the same thing as over-writing the existing installation so that should eliminate the potential for a corrupted file(s).

Are you still seeing this issue if you temporarily switch to a default WordPress Twenty series theme? Also make sure to clear any caches (including your browser’s), just in case.

    Thanks!

I haven’t tried. Can I do this and switch back again without corrupting the existing theme and any modifications it has?

@tig1960 – In most cases it should not be a problem but I cannot guarantee this one way or the other … you might want to check with the Theme author if the think there will be any issues as they would know much better than anyone else.

    Thanks!

Ha, the theme author doesn’t support that theme any more (not according to his page of themes – the theme is not on there and it’s no sold anywhere now)!

@tig1960 – You may need to just write down all of the settings and/or take screen shots of all of its “options” pages so that if necessary you can restore the theme’s settings.

Most quality themes will retain their settings during a temporary switch like this but, again, that is also very theme specific as to whether they are 100% saved correctly.
