• I am having trouble editing image galleries within wordpress page editor. I am using Sketch theme with Jetpack plugin and Remove XMLRPC Pingback Ping plugin.
The problem is that I cannot visually edit galleries within the post or page editor. There is no button or placeholder for the gallery once it has been inserted to re-edit. I have searched wordpress forums and the problem seems to be a recurrent one, but none of the suggested fixes have worked.
I am using Chrome and have deleted all history, cache etc.

a screen shot to the page edit can be found here: https://stephaniewoolley.co.uk/?page_id=130

    the site is stephaniewoolley.co.uk

I have just received confirmation that this is not related to my hosting provider, who has advised I turn on php errors to see if that displays the problem.
    Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have just added SCRIPT_DEBUG TO WP-CONFIG.PHP file and this has made no difference.
I have tried firefox, safari and chrome and the problem is the same across all browsers.

There are no obvious javascript errors.

This is now a slightly urgent problem as I can progress with my website properly. Please help!

did you find a solution? I am having the same issue and can’t fix it.

No not yet. I’m completely stumped. Please help!

Try deactivating your plugins as a first troubleshooting step.

Yes I tried that first, no luck unfortunately.

So deactivate them again and switch to a default theme to rule out theme issues. There is no easy way to identify this kind of issue, so it’s a process of elimination.

Also, just for the heck of it, try another browser like Firefox.

All of the above done as described in my earlier posts, but to no avail. Have followed most suggested fixes from similar posts.
    What would you suggest next?

Also, I re-posted this issue in the troubleshooting section after I realised I’d mistakenly posted here, but it’s been removed. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate there?

Doesn’t really matter which forum – and duplicate threads aren’t allowed, BTW.

Just looked at the Sketch theme forum – so are you having problems with the gallery functions that are added by JetPack?

No nothing to do with the jetpack functions, I wasn’t even using their tiled gallery (though I have now activated this feature).

The problem is on the visual editor.

Once I have added a gallery, I need to be able to re-edit it. But there is no placeholder or edit gallery button. Please see the screenshot here:

    https://stephaniewoolley.co.uk/?page_id=130

I can only see the code to edit which is not convenient with the amount of changes I will need to make.

Sorry, but I’m not sure how that Portfolio feature works – I’m not sure whether it’s possible to edit from that screen – you may need to go back to where you created it – see if this helps:

If not, start a new thread on the forum specific to that theme – so one of the WordPress.COM support team will see your thread:

steffie128 – looking at your screenshot, it looks like the option to activate the Visual Editor is completely missing from the TinyMCE Toolbar.

The problem is on the visual editor.

The screenshot you’ve provided here is displaying the Text/HTML editor – NOT the Visual Editor. Normally there should be tabs allowing you to toggle between the Visual and Text editors. Your screenshot shows that those tabs are missing.

You should be seeing something more like this – note the Visual/Text tabs at the top of the toolbar:

Edit Post Sketch 1 1 by WordPress com WordPress

Those are missing in your screenshot. If you had the tabs, you’d be able to activate the Visual Editor and edit your galleries as you’re used to.

Are you running the latest version of WordPress? (4.1.1)

Here are some troubleshooting steps for missing Visual Editor issues:

https://wptavern.com/common-issues-and-troubleshooting-wordpress-3-9 – scroll down to Visual Editor Disappeared Or Is Broken

If the first steps don’t help narrow down the cause, I personally would recommend carefully manually reinstalling the WordPress core files, making very sure you don’t overwrite any modified files, like your wp-config.php and .htaccess files, and wp-content folder. Always make a backup before updating as well.

p.s. WPyogi – I don’t think this is a WordPress.com-related issue, nor is it theme-specific, or even related to galleries or portfolios, since steffie128 confirmed she has no Visual Editor in any theme, not just Sketch ??

Thanks, Kathryn, my mistake ?? .
