• So here’s the deal. We have wordpress running at https://www.secureourfuture.org/blog. Everything works perfectly here.

However, we would like to put the first few posts up on our front page, so I simply copied the code from /themes/index.php into our index.php of our front page (I made sure to include wp-blog-header.php).

The problem is that there is a garbage character that appears in some posts. It only appears on the front page, and not on the blog page (which puzzles me because it’s the same code).

But here’s where it gets really weird. If I do a File->Save Page As and save it as an html file…THE GARBAGE CHARACTER MAGICALLY APPEARS (It looks like an A with a hat)!

You can try it yourself. Go to https://www.secureourfuture.org/blog/?p=350
You can see that everything looks great here.

Now go to File->Save Page As and save it as an html to your hard drive and then open it again. See the garbage?

I’m almost at my wits end about this, if anyone could shed any light I would be thrilled.

    Thanks

  • It’s character encoding ??

If you want posts from your blog to appear elsewhere, still call wp-blog-header, but then use a plugin:

Any chance I could convince you to elaborate a little? I would very much like to know exactly how this problem came about.

Also, what exactly does the plugin do that calling the_post and the_content doesn’t do?
