• Using Foogallery 1.2.15

Seeing the following error message when I go to edit a Gallery:

    Thumbnail Generation Alert!
There is a problem generating thumbnails for your gallery. Please check that your hosting provider has the GD Image Library extension installed and enabled.
If thumbnails cannot be generated, then full-sized, uncropped images will be used instead. This will result in slow page load times, and thumbnails that do not look correct.

I’ve confirmed with my host that GD Image Library is installed and active, and it even shows up in Foogallery’s system info:

    PHP version : 5.6.25
    PHP GD Loaded : 2

I’m assuming this is unrelated, but just in case, I’m also getting:
Notice Undefined offset: 3 in .../plugins/foogallery/includes/admin/class-menu.php on line 85

I’m going to start a separate topic for the latter, since it seems to be a separate issue.

  • Anything on this, I too have the same problem with GD running on my server? : (

bradvin, I am also having the same issue with GD Library. Is there any update on this issue??

Have checked to make sure there is a generated thumbnail, which there is. I have checked another plugin to see if the thumbnail generation is the same. That plugin worked fine and using the thumbnail fine to serve the image gallery.

    hey guys,

Sometimes it could also be a folder permission issue that causes the error. 90% of the time, it is a GD library issue.

@unknownfearless – can you link to a page where you are using foogallery?

It could be having a problem generating the test image but it fine with generating the actual gallery thumbs.

    @bradvin – This page uses a FooGallery.

Would really like it sorted as like the plugin but it’s killing my pagespeed. The thumbs are generated and selected in WP but just not being displayed and it’s using full size images which are big.

@unknownfearless Looking at your gallery, it seems that the foogallery thumbnail generator cannot create thumbs. It could be a folder permission issue on your server. Please go over this article for that problem : https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-fix-the-unable-to-create-directory-error-in-wordpress-5264

Also, in the FooGallery Settings -> Images tab, you can enable the “Use Original Thumbnails” setting which will use your WordPress generated thumbs in your gallery if it can.

@bradvin. Checked the folder permissions and they are fine. Tried setting the Use Original Thumbnail setting which is ticked but has not made any changes to the displayed gallery.

I do get the Thumbnail generation test failed! No editor could be selected. I have deleted my child functions file and tried that to see if conflict. Didn’t work. Deactivated plugin and restarted. Didn’t work.

@unknownfearless – are you able to activate a default theme and see if you still have the issue? Please could you also deactivate all plugins except for foogallery, and see if you still have the problem.

I have been researching this issue and it seems to stem from a plugin / theme conflict.

@bradvin – Changed the theme to a default and still had the issue. Changed back to normal theme and deactivated all plugins. Activated Foo Gallery and all was fine. Went through plugins until I found the issue. I have now stopped using the plugin and all is fine and back to normal.

    Thanks for your help.

what plugin was it? : )

@jsecore – The plugin provided an Ajax Search function. Your plugin could be different. I would do as @bradvin suggested and deactivate all plugins and go through each one and see which one it is.

@unknownfearless – if the Ajax search plugin in question is available from the wp.org plugin repository then please let me know what it is, so that I can find out what the conflicting code is, and build in a way to check for this scenario in future.

If it is a custom plugin, then please email it to me [email protected]

    Thanks for the help

@bradvin – Here is the plugin and keep up the development it is a great plugin.

    Ajax Search Lite

@bradvin. – Hi There. I come across the same error message as others:
    Thumbnail Generation Alert!
There is a problem generating thumbnails for your gallery. Please check that your hosting provider has the GD Image Library extension installed and enabled.

I checked my host, but GD image library is installed and enabled.
I deactivated all plugins but FOOGallery and FOOBox, but the issue remains.
Running the testing gives the fore mentioned Error.
Is there an update to this situation?
