The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be enforced on the 25th of May 2018

Now my question is: How will this be supported by cleantalk?

    Hello, @pedstone.

    Thank you for your request.

Please, do the following to meet GDPR requirements:
Go to your CleanTalk Control Panel [ https://cleantalk.org/my/ ] —> press the line “Settings” under the name of your website —> enable “Don’t save approved requests” —> Save.

Please, mark this topic as “Resolved” if this reply helped you.

    Contact us anytime.

    Best regards.

I was wondering the same thing, but I’m a little hesitant as to your solution as per your instructions to ‘…enable “Don’t save approved requests”–> Save.

Hesitant because of this notice accompanying the item:

By choosing this option all emails, nicknames and messages will be deleted from approved registrations, comments, orders and contact messages.

Could you please clarify this…? I don’t want to inadvertently delete something I wouldn’t delete in the first place…!

    Thank you…!

    Hello.

That option refers to the records of your Anti-Spam Log.

    You can see it here:
    https://cleantalk.org/my/show_requests?int=week

As stated in the tooltip, the option will remove emails, nicknames and messages from approved registrations, comments, orders and contact messages.

You still will be able to see date/time and IPs in your Anti-Spam Log.

    Write back anytime.

    Best wishes.

Deleting” approved comments means that they were sent to you (to the US) in the first place.

    – No, they will not be sent, they will be deleted. Also, we would like to mention that the data of European users processing on the server located in Europe.

    Here is our privacy policy:

And read next “Limitation of Liability”

    Best regards

Sorry to belabor this topic, but as you know, the GDPR is complex and potentially devastating.

Since IP’s are considered personally identifiable information, I’m wondering if this service is going to remain viable beyond May 25th? I am on the verge of telling clients that I am going to have to (regretfully), cancel your excellent services.

There needs to be some kind of clearly defined explanation of how this is going to be compliant and remain effective.

Pointing out a limitation of liability is not reassuring whatsoever.

Is this, or is this not going to be compliant? If so, how?

I’m sorry, folks. Not trying to be rude, but a stink load of money potentially rides on getting this right. I love your service and it really pisses me off that the E.U. is doing this, but it is what it is. Unless they back down from their stance on IP’s being personally identifiable information, I don’t see how ANY spam filter is going to be compliant. Ironically, that will cause the opposite of their stated purpose to happen. Spammers are going to run amok and their malicious garbage will hurt the very people the E.U. claims to want to help.

    Thanks

    Hello,
We understand your concern. I’ll try to clarify, how you can solve this issue.

    1. We can offer to use our option “Don’t save approved requests”. In this case, all legitimate requests won’t be stored in the service. There is one thing, CleanTalk must take a decision for each request Spam or Not Spam and to do it right IP/email will be sent to our servers for processing. I think you should add a point about it in your site policy.

Go to your CleanTalk Control Panel [ https://cleantalk.org/my/ ] —> press the line “Settings” under the name of your website —> enable “Don’t save approved requests” —> Save.

    2. CleanTalk will work for all of our customers and after May 25th.

    3. We are planning to add a special option for customers from E.U. This will allow you to set a place where we will store a data. If you pick this option, all data will be stored and processed only in E.U.

We will add this option before May 25th and let you know about it this topic.

Would be great if you can give us other tips how we can help you with GDPR.

    Thank you!
