GDPR friendly YouTube embed

  • This small plugin makes it possible to embed YouTube videos in Germany without violating the GDPR. Even youtubenocookie doesn’t appear secure here as the domain will preconnect. It’s helpful to save the thumbnails locally as well. The plugin runs (after a bit of testing with the settings) both mobile and desktop without any problems. The only wish for improvement would be an elegant solution for linking the privacy policy outside of the figcaption. Maybe a small overlay in a corner?

    thanks for the great review winterfjell! I agree some UI updates (and more) would be welcome, but currently I lack the time for what would be an almost complete rewrite I’m afraid.
