In my opinion, Google Maps should not be loaded before a user consent. Is it possible to add a text before loading Google Maps Integration, like “I accept that data is transferred to Google, if I want to see the Google Map of this event”.

  • NOTHING!
There is NOTHING going that way. The User IP is not even recorded. The only thing sent anywhere is your own IP and API key if you click the “Search Address” button while creating a new location.

Thats great, thanks a lot! Fine!

There is no need to send any IP.
To show the map no IP is ever needed. Location info is taken from the WP database and map tiles are loaded according to the shown marker coordinates. It has nothing to do with where the visitor is located.

Google “needs” the IP to show an empty map, which they center around your current location. I designed the EM OSM in such a way, that if there is no location, it will default to zoom level 1, on Latitude 0, Longitude 0 (which is somewhere on the equator under Gold Coast, Africa).

Personally, I always found it “strange” that Google “needs” to know a lot. ?? There is no technical reason that any user info is required. Only if you “search near me” or “ask for directions”.

The simple fact that you’d need 5 API keys to show a simple (relatively static) map, indicates the amount of data Google tries to gather.

    Hi Patrick,

thanks for your explanation; that is a great solution. I will implement it and rate.
