General Newbie Help!!!

  • I hate asking for help in which I feel dumb asking, but does someone know of a website that can show me some examples of simple websites using WP that have the content inside the site? for example, if you check out my site, (www.adventuresofcoryandsherry.com/index2.php) (remove index2.php to see the working site) you will see where I want the content, but I simply cannot get it there since I do not have any experience in code. I’ve tried playing with WP for 3 days and have managed to get a completly blank box inside my website. I have no idea what I’m doing, and I’m getting close to scrapping the whole WP idea. Do I sound fustrated? hehe. Someone needs to build a website “WP and PHP for dummies” The only thing I have gotten working is PHP, mysql, and the basic WP theme. If someone can help me, or point me in some direction, that would be great. Thanks alot! Cory. P.S. Sorry for being extremely confused.

  • Having been in your position, I humbly suggest that you should start smaller and work up to creating your own site design. Coding a theme from scratch is like riding a bike, its easy once you know how.

    What I would do in your situation is to find a theme that I like, and alter it slightly to match my vision. Why not have a custom header image to start? That alone will give your site a unique feel.

    That all said, if you still want to go code it up, you need to start reading the codex

    Thanks for the advice. I had figured that there would have been something simple that I could do, but I followed your suggestion and decided to modify the original theme. I’ve edited it somewhat to get it where I want. I just need to try and figure out the style.css to change the spacing, colors and layout, etc. Thanks, and I would appreciate any more input and direction.
