• Hi Guys,

Im very new to wordpress. Currently working on the back end of a site and installing some plugins etc. I just have a simple quick question.

For example when you install contact form 7, you get a new menu in dashboard called Contact Well what happens if i installed another contact genre plugin? Do you get a duplicate menu? Is this possible? Do they go in to the one contact menu?

How does it work? Thank you!!

  • The menu that shows up depends on the specific plugin you install. The technical details of how it’s done can be found in the Codex.

In your example if you installed another contact plugin, lets say the Grunion Contact Form (that’s what I have installed on my site at the moment so I know how it works), you would see a new menu listed below Comments called Feedbacks. In the case of the Grunion Contact Form it emails you when someone sends you a message and also stores it in the database so you can see it in the administration area under that new Feedbacks menu.

If you installed both Contact Form 7 and Grunion Contact Form you would see both menus in your administration area. I would recommend you choose one contact form plugin and stick with it for simplicity sake but it certainly would be possible to use multiple plugins simultaneously.

I hope this answered the questions you had – if you want more details about something just reply and I’ll do my best to clarify.

Hi thanks so much for the detailed response. I was just wondering if ever any 2 plugins assigned the same menu name in this case example would be contact and if so what would happen.

Also how do i find the template page to remove the leave a reply comment section thank you?

Chances are if you installed two plugins that created the same menu name (and they were doing things correctly) you would end up with two menus in the administration area with the same name – they wouldn’t be combined automatically.

I’m not sure what you mean by your question about removing the leave a reply comment section – if you could give more details about what specifically you’re trying to do (and what theme you’re working with) that would help a lot or if you have a specific page on your site you’re working on and could provide a link I’d be happy to take a look. Although, typically comments are handled in the comments.php file in your theme.

Thanks again. Im just using the 2011 theme now to play with and learn. If you go to https://music4dancers.com/contact/

and see the leave a reply section below im wondering how to get rid of that. Thanks you!!

Oh that’s easy to turn off, no need to do anything with theme files :-).

If you edit the page (Pages > All Posts > Edit) scroll down and look for a box named Discussion then just uncheck the boxes for Allow comments and Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page. Hit update and go back and take a look at the page again, the box should be gone.

If for some reason the Discussion options aren’t showing up on your edit screen click on the Screen Options link in the upper right corner of the Edit Page screen and make sure that Discussion has a check next to it.

    Hey,

I forgot to ask is there away to remove the leave a reply thing just for certain pages instead of all?

    Thank you

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I’ve been sick the past few days.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, could you give me an example?

The steps I told you before to turn off comments and trackbacks are page/post specific, you can turn them on or off for each page/post on your site.
