I have purchased a few plugins recently for a site I’m working on that involve using different shipment methods and pricing for different user groups/roles. To be specific, the client divides their customer base in into two groups: 1) Retail Users 2) Wholesale Users. A retail user is basically any user that is signed up that isn’t a wholesale user or a guest that is checking out.

I’m hoping after breaking down my desired functionality, someone can lead me in the direction of what the cleanest way to set this up would be. The desired functionality is as follows:

    – PRODUCT PRICING: Products will have an individual price (for buying a quantity of 1) and a price for a case (for buying a quantity of however many of that product come in a case – ie some products have different quantities that consist of a case). The case price will reflect a discount for buying in bulk.
    – PURCHASE RESTRICTIONS: Wholesale users (which I currently am defining using the WordPress Groups plugin) can only purchase products by the case (ie they can’t buy individual quantities), Retail users can only purchase products by the individual amount (ie they can’t buy by the case and receive the bulk discount)
    – SHIPPING RESTRICTIONS: Retail users pay a rate pulled by FedEx Ground for all orders under $100 and receive Free Shipping for any orders at or above $100. Wholesale users always pay whatever rate is pulled by FedEx Ground.
    – TAX RESTRICTIONS: Retails users pay normal sales tax, wholesale users are never charged tax as they are reselling the products.
    – INVENTORY: If possible, I’d like the inventory to stay in sync for each product and decrement accordingly whether its purchased in individual quantities or by the case. For example, if I have 100 items of Product A in my inventory and a case is 10 items of Product A, whether someone buys some quantity of Product A individually or a wholesale user buy one case, I’d like the same inventory to be decremented accordingly in each base (ie case purchases and individual purchases affect the same stock value). Really I want to avoid having two products for Product A, the individual version for retail users and the case version for wholesale users.

I’m aware this is a more complex setup and am happy to buy whatever plugins are needed. I have already bought a few, but I’d like the setup to be as clean as possible and the more intertwined plugins the store is dependent on the more I’m opening up the possibility for issues down the road.

Thus, I’m hoping the experts can point me in the right direction in setting up a store with my desired functionality as cleanly as possible. Please let me know if I can give you any more information or clarify anything to make it easer to push me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any help!
