• There is a lot of hyperbole on both sides of the commenters, both “Core NOW !!!!” and “Core never!!!!!” so I wanted to just try it out. First try, tinkering around with creating posts and editing, I find it simple and elegant. I want more functionality but I know that can be added in time, the important thing is to get the general idea nailed down I think.

As to the other page builders out there, this might be disruptive to their business, but are any of them really that fantastic? When buying themes you really have to use the plugins they integrate, even as an experienced css and html coder and pretty good php, hacking most themes is very difficult. Anyway, wpbakery and others, I get they are everywhere, but are they simple and elegant? No they are not. They are heavy, complicated, and it takes a while to figure it out. Options are all over the place.

Enter Gutenberg, and it’s a good start. The concept of blocks is overdue. I’m hopeful this is the beginning of something great.

Thanks for taking time to review and try out Gutenberg. As you note it is important to try writing a post. What feature are you most excited about?

@nouvre Great comment. I’d put my signature under it. I wonder why I should use other drag-and-drop plugins, for example. With Gutenberg, that would all become superfluous at some point.

Tammie, it wasn’t a specific feature, more the overall impression, I can see building pages will be about using blocks, which is along the lines of how page builders work. But the user experience, I find much more integrated and elegant. Nothing like adding bulky plugins that constantly hit you in the face trying to get you to like them on facebook, pay them money for something you are not sure is worth any money. etc.

Samuel exactly! I think it’s for the best.
