Generate Static Files does nothing

  • New WP installation v5.8 and PHP 7.3.
    New theme installed with demo data.
    Installed Simply Static, added static-files folder and left default settings.
    Clicking the Generate Static Files button and nothing happens. Absolutely nothing.
    Cron is enabled.
