• I have this setting turned on.

Do automatically on upload: Generate??thumbnail from?0% of the way through the video.

My understand is that this will automatically generate a thumbnail after I upload a vidoe, and it will set the thumbnail as the featured picture for the video. But neither do I see a new thumbnail in the Media nor is the featured picture of the video set.

Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks.

Since you’re able to turn that setting on, I assume you have FFMPEG installed and working on your server.

First try disabling the setting that says “When possible, use the browser’s built-in video capabilities to make thumbnails instead of FFMPEG.” in the FFMPEG Settings tab of the Videopack settings page, then attempt to manually generate a video thumbnail in the Media Library. If generating the thumbnail manually is successful, can you post the full FFMPEG test output from the bottom of the FFMPEG settings tab? If you’re on a multisite installation, which I think you are, then you probably won’t see those settings unless you’re in the Network Admin area.

    Kyle, thank you for replying.

No, I don’t have FFMPEG installed on the server. I just use the Chrome browser capabilities to generate the thumbnail.

Do I need to install FFMPEG to automatically generate thumbnails please?

    thanks.

Yes you do need FFMPEG on your server to automatically generate thumbnails on upload. I’m surprised you’re able to turn on that automatic thumbnail setting. It seems like I need to do some more testing with multisite installations.

I am trying to pursue this further.

I installed FFMPEG on the server, and disable “When possible, use the browser’s built-in video capabilities to make thumbnails instead of FFMPEG.”

Yes, I am able to generate the thumbnail manually.

However, it still does not automatically generate a thumbnail for the videoafter uploading it.

Yes, I found the FFMPEG test output. But I am not able to scroll or copy it because the text area is grey out. Any idea please?

Do I need to check “Encode formats selected above.” for this automatic thumbnail generation to work, please?

    Thank you very much!

On another thought, maybe it does automatically generate the thumbnail on upload. I found a new thumbnail picture after SOME time, way after I did it manually.

So, maybe it does but just comes in too late. Doing it manually is much quicker.

Is there a way to verify that, or speed up the automatic generation process? It needs to be faster than manual generation for this function to be useful.

Also, I only see the new thumbnail picture but I am not sure if it will be set as the featured picture, because I manually did it already.
