Generating image galleries

Hi!

We are a group of students currently working on developing a website as our bachelorassignment. With that, there’s one issue we need a little help with.

Our website will be about ceramics, and naturally we will have several image galleries.

Firstly we will create one gallery per manufacturer of ceramic items. But then we wish to have galleries showcasing the different items, categorized by type of item, for example bowl, vase and so on. Independently of the manufacturers.

Is there a way to automatically generate image galleries by categorizing our images, or giving them specific labels? Perhaps installing a plugin that helps us with this?
