• Hello All,
I am very new to WordPress and am trying to find my way through all there is to learn. I am having trouble with this plug-in (Genesis Featured Page Advanced). My website seems fine and I can not direct any problems or broken links. I only discovered this problem when I tried to live preview a new theme for my website. I was taken to an error page. I contacted my hosting provider and they recommended I check my plugins to see if one was having a problem. I deactivated all of them and then activated them one by one to see if there was one plugin that was having the issue. All plugins worked fine with the live preview (new theme live preview) except for Genesis Featured Page Advanced and Custom Featured Post Widget. I also have a problem with Custom Featured Post Widget (I am not sure if they are connected in any way?)
I am not sure what to do, my thought was to contact the plugin support and ask what to do.
This is what comes up (when I click the live preview for any new theme) when I have the Genesis Featured Page Advanced activated:

Edit widget: Genesis - Featured Page Advanced Add widget: Genesis - Featured Page Advanced Edit Add Genesis - Featured Page Advanced
    Genesis - Featured Page Advanced
    Title:

     Enable Title Link

Position Title Below Image (Defaults to Above)

     Feature a Page
     Feature a Custom Page Link
    Select Page:
    About Us

    Custom Page Link:

This will direct all widget links (title, image, more text) to the custom link. Include the full path, i.e. https://

    Link target Attribute:
    Self

    Link rel Values:
    ex: nofollow author

Enter a space separated list of link type values.

     No Image
     Show Featured Image
     Show Custom Image
    Featured Image Size:
    Thumbnail (150×150)

Only this on a white screen. When I have the Custom Featured Post Widget activated then I am taken to an error page.
Also if this helps, the theme I have now is a pro theme and I installed all the required plugins that the theme required to appear like the demo. These 2 plugins I’m having a problem with were required plugins.
Please help, I do not know where to go from here.
Many many thanks in advance for any help you could offer!!

    Crystal

    Hi Crystal,

Thanks for alerting me to the issue. I will investigate and work on a fix in the next release. Great find, because I am surprised no one else has discovered this before!

While this error is annoying, it does not impact the usability of your site, only the “live preview”. If you activate the theme you want, and then view the website on the frontend, you should have no issues.

Note that it appears that this issue only happens when you are previewing a non-Genesis theme. This plugin requires the theme to be a Genesis child theme or else it will not work. There are triggers in the plugin that will safely disable it if the current theme is a non-Genesis theme, but it appears that the “live preview” functionality is by-passing these triggers, hence the issue you found.

Let me know if I can answer any further questions.

    Nick
