• Hello

I’m using the plugin Geo Mashup to show google maps on my website (each post has a location which geo mashup saves).

I’m guessing if you’re reading this, you know what Geo Mashup is, so lets get down to my problem.

Each of my posts has 2 (or sometimes even 3) categories. When I want to display different colors per category, and the post has multiple categories, geo mashup just shows a white marker on the map. (probably cause it doesn’t know which color it should be)

However, I always work with 1 main-category list which is coupled to my navigation bar, for ease of finding stuff on the website, but I also have a category for each country.
Example: a post describing the traffic in Belgium would have the categories “Traffic” and “Belgium”.

Now, in the google maps, I want it to ignore the category ‘Belgium’ (this is a location which should be ignored to define the color) and just show the marker with the color that “Traffic” has defined.

Is there any way of doing this?
Thanks for reading, hope you’ll reply.

This is exactly what I’m trying to achieve too, but I’m not sure the answer posted above is quite what willx was looking for, it seems to default all categories to a given color.

Having set colors for all sub categories under my “rating” category on the geomashup->settings->category/color/show connecting line setction, I would like the pins on the map to be color coded according to the rating category.

Like willx, I have posts in 3 categories. If I remove the post form all but the rating category, it seems to work as expected. But when a post is in more than 1 category, it does not. The above solution defaults all pins to red, not ignore a certain category in preference of another.

Is there a way to get the plugin to only “see” a known category, in my case, rating, and color the pin according to the geomashup settings for that category?

@tomtom22, your rules could be coded as custom javascript, but with Geo Mashup the 1.5 beta release you could also do this:

Thanks a lot Dylan, I’ll look into that and post back here when I’m successful.
I forgot to mention that your plugin seriously rocks!

Reading about custom taxonomy, I see that when posts belong to multiple categories, a custom taxonomy is the way to go anyway for forward flexibility and also some fun menu plugins. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
