I have 8 updates on plug ins – they are not updating automatically as they are supposed to. Whenever I try updating manually, I get the “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” error message and I can’t get back into my site.

    Any thoughts?

I’ve deleted the maintenance file in my File Manager but nothing has changed.

Do you perchance happen to use the Astra Stater Sites plugin? I’ve seen several users report this plugin causing updates to fail, like here.

Hi! I do use Astra Starter – thank you – I’ll journey down that Rabbit Hole!

Hi! Thank you! I was able to find the answer thanks to you sending me to another forum! Hooray!

    Solution:

The issue was being caused by a plugin bug that has now been fixed.

If your site is stuck in maintenance mode, you can fix that by deleting the “.maintenance” file in your main WordPress directory (probably /public_html)

To update to the fixed version:

    1. Deactivate the Starter Templates plugin (since it’s breaking the updater)
    2. Update the Starter Templates plugin to 3.1.26 or higher
    3. Reactivate the Starter Templates plugin
