• See how this page just displays the link text, the URL?
    Sometimes I find I can post a link and it opens an image – it’s from the actual page I was linking to.
    How do I control when that happens and when it doesn’t?

    Do you mean the behavior where if I insert your link in my blog post, a little preview box is displayed instead of the URL itself? But some URLs don’t do that?

    This is the oEmbed feature. It only works if the source site acts as an oEmbed server. This is the case for default WP sites, but not all sites are oEmbed servers. You cannot get an oEmbed preview box if the site is not an oEmbed server.

    If you really want an URL and not the preview box of an oEmbed site, place some text on the same line in front of the URL. The oEmbed process is only applied to URLs that are first on a line.
