Get next event to show in homepage

Hello,
I’ve slides images in homepage that will be always the same, the images are not related to the event, but I would like to show over the images a text that makes a countdown to the next event with a subscribe button.
I could manage to make some code update because of good knowledge of php, but I’ve no knowledge of wordpress structure and plugins.
