Get post id of the post being viewed in header.php

I just had an idea, would there be a function to get a post id from a permalink, because if so I could use $_SERVER[‘HTTP_HOST’] and $_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’]to get the url and plug it into that function.

put this inside your header:
$ID = $wp_query->post->ID;
