I expect many people will be commenting on this post, but at 73 and not techie minded I’m finding it a bit hard to get my products onto the fraont page.
I’ve got several products setup and loaded into the ‘Products’ section and add several catogories to my main catalogue ‘Book’ and completed most of the tasks in the ‘Oprions’ section. But when I go to the Products page and fill it in and click ‘Save Tabs’ nothings happening. Nothing comes up on the site, I’ve still got ‘Hello World’ up there which is from the post section. But I left it there untill I got the site up and running.

I think I’ve missed something in ‘Short code’ that I should have done but can’t remember what it was.
I’d be grateful if you could tell me how to go forward from here and get something on the site so it gives me confidence to complete at least one catagorie.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hi @centurrian,

If you are trying to display your “book” catalogue on the front page, you would need to use the following shortcode on the page:
    [product-catalogue id="X"]

Make sure to replace ID X with your catalogue ID.

You can also click here to view our tutorial on how to set up a catalogue from scratch.

    Thanks for the reply,

But where do I find my catalogue ID in the Ultimate Product Catalog plugin

as I haven’t got a clue where it is.

    Sorry to be so negative.

    Thanks again.

I found the Catalogue ID, but when I entered it as discribed in the ‘Product Catalogue’ Youtube channel [product-catalogue id=3] the result was the wording on the front page is now in a verticle line.

    Not doing particually well

In the last post it should have been [product-catalogue id=”3″] and not id=3

    Sorry about that.

    Hi centturian,

We noticed the quotes in the shortcode you mentioned (in your last message) are a mix of plain and rich text. This can sometimes cause issues, so could you try copying and pasting this exact shortcode into your page:

    [product-catalogue id="3"]

I followed your lead and I’m still suffering from vertical lettering.

Do you know anyone who can set this site up for me at a reasnable price. Because at this rate the Internet will be out of fashion by the time I’m finished.

    Fabian.

    Hi @centturian,

How about we try again from the beginning? You can follow my steps below, and I’ll try to attach a screenshot for every step.

First we will create a catalog and add it to your front page using the WordPress dashboard.

Step 1: In the Ultimate Product Catalog Settings, found under “Product Catalog” (1) in the left hand side, Click on “Catalogs” (2). View screenshot

Step 2: Give your catalog a name (1). You can also give it a description. Then click on “Add New Catalog” (2). View screenshot

Step 3: Copy the shortcode provided (1) for the catalog you just created. In my case, the catalog ID is 3. Verify what your ID(2) is and note it down.View screenshot

Step 4: Click on “Pages” (1), found in the left hand side, then click on your front page to edit (2).View screenshot

Step 5: Add the shortcode you copied from Step 3 onto your page and then publish/update it.
    `[product-catalogue id=’3′]’

Congratulations you have added a catalog to your front page! It should be empty, as we did not add any products yet, so do not worry. View screenshot

From here, we will manually add a product to the catalog. You can also use a spreadsheet to import products, and you can add categories as well.

Step 4: In the Ultimate Product Catalog Settings, found under “Product Catalog” (1) in the left hand side, Click on “Products” (2). View screenshot

Step 5: Click “Manually”. View screenshot

Step 6: Give your product a name (1). You can fill in the rest of the fields if you’d like. And then click on “Create Product” (2). View screenshot

Step 7: Now we head back over to catalog, as seen in Step 1. View screenshot

Step 8: Click on the catalog you created.

Step 9: Scroll down, under “Products” you should see the product you created in Step 6. Click on it’s checkbox (1) and click on “Add to Catalog” (2). View screenshot

Congratulations you have added a product to your catalog. Visit your front page now to see it live!

You can follow Steps 4-9 to add more products to your catalog.
    All the best!

I think you have the patients of a saint to put up with my wining all the time and thankyou for laying it out so clearly for me to follow along.

I decide to reset the database back to its origanal state and start afresh. Only problem is it also reset the plugin so I had to re-install the key you sent me. Ofcourse the plugin wouldn’t accept the key and I had to go back to the email you sent me with the last key I recieved and ask them (you) for another key.

If you send one I will closely follow your above instructions to the letter as well as printing out the full documentation pluss the videos (19) I found on Youtube.

That should at least get me something that resembles your ‘Demo Site’

Once again Thankyou for all your help.

    Hi @centturian,

No problem! Please email us at [email protected] to retrieve your key (just make sure to reference this thread when you do).
