    Hello,

I am new to Wordfence and have enabled the “Alert me when a non-admin user signs in” option. My website currently only has one user, and it’s an Administrator. However, whenever I sign in, I am getting email alerts that say “A non-admin user with username <myusername> signed in to your WordPress site”. Is this normal behavior?

    Thanks for the great plugin,
    JP

    JP,

Thanks for the report — that definitely is unusual. It is working ok for me, but do you have any other plugins that affect the login process or change user capabilities, including other security plugins? If so, can you temporarily disable them and try logging in again?

Wordfence skips sending duplicate emails within an hour, so you may have to wait a while after your last login, or see if you can log in from another device that has a different IP address, to test it. (e.g., a phone that is on a mobile network and not your own wifi should have a different IP, so that should work for testing.)

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for providing some troubleshooting steps. We do have the “All In One WP Security” plugin being used on our site. However, I disabled it and logged in as the same user on my iPhone (different IP) and still received the same type of email alert.

Our website is quite small at this stage so I’d be happy to list our currently active plugins (not including AIOWPS): Akismet, Booking Calendar, Childify Me, Contact Form 7, Disable Comments, Elegant Themes Updater, Monarch Plugin, SumoMe, Use Any Font, Wordfence Security, WP Edit, Yoast SEO.

I would also be happy to share/forward the two email alerts if that would be helpful.

I suppose I can just turn off the alerts, but if you have any other advice, it would be most welcome ??

    Thank you,
    JP

Thanks for the plugin list — there are a few I’m not familiar with, but none jump out as likely problems. Can you check on Wordfence’s Live Traffic page, on the Logins and Logouts tab, and see if your logins are showing up there with the correct username, too?

If you can send me the email alerts, I can take a look. My email address is mattr (at) wordfence.com Please include a link to this post in the email too. Thanks!

I received the emails you forwarded, but haven’t found anything that might cause this yet.

Is your WordPress installation from a “one click” installer on your host’s control panel, or did you install WordPress manually from the .zip file from www.ads-software.com? There is a possibility that certain changes they might make to WordPress could affect this notice.

    Yes, that’s very possible…

This particular site was developed and launched as a GoDaddy Managed WordPress site. Their set up process is kind of like a “one click” installer.

So, if that’s the best guess, then I will just turn off the alerts. However, if there’s anything specific I could ask GoDaddy regarding their Managed WordPress hosting environment, I would be happy to.

Can you just tell me, if you go to the “Updates” link under the Dashboard menu in the WP admin pages, do you see a bold line “You have the latest version of WordPress …”, or are the only bold lines “Plugins” and “Themes”?

The only bold lines are “Plugins” and “Themes”. GoDaddy updates the core automatically when new versions are released.

Ok, great — I see what is happening then and have submitted a report to the dev team (reference number FB1029), so this should be fixed in a future version. I don’t know what version it will be in, but if you keep the alerts enabled, you will see the message change after this has been implemented.

Thanks for the details that helped find the issue!

    Wonderful, thanks so much!!

    How’s this fix coming along?

@BAMcast.Biz: This is still in our queue, but not yet scheduled for a specific release.

Same scenario here, also hosted on GoDaddy Managed WordPress.

    Looking forward to the update!
