After activating Wordfence, I cannot display a specific page on my website. I’m getting “Error 500 – Internal Server Error”. This issue disappears when wordfence is deactivated. In my debug.log file I’ve the following line:

[11-Oct-2017 01:18:21 UTC] PHP Notice: Constant FORCE_SSL_ADMIN already defined in /xxxx/xxxxx/public_html/wp-config.php on line 97

Thanks in advance for your help to fix this issue.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @keimma,

Do you see this PHP notice in the web server logs or only in a debug log file generated by WP_DEBUG?
In the latter case, could you also please check the web server logs and see if there are any errors when you try to access the WordPress users page?

Lastly, could you try and disable all other plugins (and only keep Wordfence active) to check if you’re still getting the error then?
If not, this would indicate a conflict with another plugin which you could identify by reactivating plugins one by one until the issue occurs again.

    Hi wfyann

I really don’t know what is going wrong with wordfence. There is no fatal error neither in debug.log nor error_log. I’ve disabled all the plugins and only let wordfence but I could’nt display the page. I’m getting the message below:

    ——-
https://www.rhinobargain.com is currently unable to handle this request.
    HTTP ERROR 500
    ——-

If I disable wordfence then I will be able to display the page.
Can you please help identify what preventing the page to display when wordfence is activated?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @keimma,

Could you please try and manually remove the firewall setup, then carry out the optimization procedure again?

In order to make sure which Firewall setup you should be using:

    • Go to the Wordfence Tools page
    • Click the Diagnostics tab
    • In the Other Tests section (near the bottom of the page), click the link that reads “Click to view your system’s configuration in a new window“. This will open a Wordfence System Info page

Check the Server API field. Is it consistent with the parameter which is “Recommended based on our tests“?

    Hello wfyann,

The Server API field has “CGI/FastCGI” as value. My concern now is to upgrade to pro and face similar issues where wordfence will prevent access to some pages of my website.

Also I’ve removed firewall setup and ran a reconfiguration again but the issue is still persisting

    Hi @keimma,

In order for us to further investigate, could you please:

    • Go to the Wordfence Tools page
    • Click the Diagnostics tab
    • Scroll down to the Send Report by Email section
    • Send the report to yann[at]wordfence[dot]com

Also, please make sure to specify your forum username.

    Thank you.

    Hi wfyann,

I’ve sent the report. Below is the message that has been generated by wordfence:

    ———

    Email Diagnostic Report

Diagnostic report has been sent successfully.

    ———

Thanks in advance for your feedback

    Hi @keimma,

    Thanks for sending the report.

It shows that you have 3 log files which contain information. Would you mind forwarding them to me so I can have a look? (Please send them to the same email address you used for the Diagnostics report)

Also could you try and temporarily switch to a default theme to see if the issue occurs then?

    Hi @keimma,,

Sorry about such a delayed response.

One of the log files you sent shows that there is PHP fatal error related to the memory limit. You can see here how to fix this.

Note that this is not specifically caused by Wordfence.
