All has been well with my achievements, but today I installed Advanced Access Manager and configured it a bit (the only thing I changed was to allow contributors to upload media files, nothing else).

Now subscriber level users are not getting any achievements (tested with multiple achievements with several dummy accounts). Contributor and above are fine and get their achievements. There are several settings on the AAA dashboard pertaining to this plugin, but all settings seem identical to contributor. Here’s a screenshot of my actual subscriber settings. https://i.imgur.com/4fgUemD.png

Does edit_post have to be turned on for achievements to work for that user role? That’s about the only thing I can figure, but it defeats the purpose of having a subscriber role if so.

I’m on multisite + buddypress + bbpress if it helps. Advanced Access Manager is activated network wide. Achievements for WordPress is activated per site basis.

Update: I did some tests with and without Advanced Access Manager. It seems AAA is not the culprit and I may have had this issue all along (as it happened I started testing achievements on subscriber level accounts at about the same time I installed AAA).

With AAA disabled, subscriber level users still get no achievements, no points, and no popups. Using AAA, I enabled full admin privileges for the subscriber level and still could not get achievements to work. They work find on any other user role.

It seems my problem is getting Achievements for WordPress to work on subscriber level at all.

Update: Well, it seems I have no default user roles. When someone signs up they are not being assigned a role at all. “My New User Default Role” drop down box is missing. My test users were NOT subscribers at all, but blank roles. No wonder it wouldn’t work!

So, in the end my issue was not the achievements plugin but some crazy conflict somewhere else. Resolved. Sorry if I wasting anyone’s time! ;P
