Getting mass registrations from spammers

I want people to be able to register for our blog.

However, I get more spammers than anything. I’m tired of going in and deleting them manually. How can I make it harder for them to register, without shutting out legitimate ones?

Alternatively, how can I (at least) stop receiving notifications of these registrations – they come in constantly?
