getting rows aligned in column format

Firstly, I notice that you’re adding some PHP to your custom CSS.

As for the spacing, it appears that the titles in the left column have an extra line break above them vs the titles in the right column. I suggest you take a look at the editor and make sure that the <br> tags match up.

If you’re unable to find a line break that is throwing off the layout, can you please send some screenshots of how you’ve set this up in your admin so that I can try to replicate?

Thanks. I don’t know what that code is. I certainly didn’t add it manually. Could some plugin have put it there? I’d have put it in the child’s theme.
As far spacing, I have tried deleting all sorts of br and p tags in every possible combination. I had to manually code this in html in wordpress because the consultant who was helping me make my pages compliant for the vision-impaired said that the youtube links weren’t easily figured out without comments in the html. Possibly because of lazyload but either way I had to edit the html myself.

I don’t suggest you use custom html. If you were having a problem using blocks then I suggest you work on fixing that issue which would make for a much simpler thing to edit in the future.

If you absolutely have to then I think you can simplify it much more than what you have. Currently, I see this and it doesn’t make sense:

This is even cleaner then some of your other sections which have nested center tags for no reason. So best to stick to blocks and create what you want, if you have an issue then post and we can help with the styling.

That’s for the video- had to do that. I was working with a consultant to make my pages accessible to the vision-impaired. For whatever reason the embedded video on wordpress is very confusing to a blind guy using a screen reader. So we sort of had to play with the html.
Believe me, that last thing I want to do is anything to do with html. The whole reason of using wordpress is of course to do no coding. But some stuff just doesn’t work right.

I’m having other issues, like with sidebars. One page won’t let me access it so I’m having to start over again with that page, and that’s a lot of work.
Also is there a way to have one page’s sidebar on the left? Not for the whole site, just one of the pages?

I suggest using a different block (like an image block with a link to your video) if you can’t use the video embed block.

There isn’t an option to move the sidebar for one page, however if you post a link it can be done with a little bit of css, need a link through to see the page data so I can give you the correct css that only targets that page.

Not as easy as it sounds.
So, this is the page where I want a left sidebar:

However for some reason it won’t let me add a sidebar. So I created a new page. I just copied the html from the old page and added a sidebar. I figure that when that page is ready I’ll delete the old page and rename the new page https://www.ivystandup.com/comedians.

The new page is https://www.ivystandup.com/comedianss (note the extra S at the end, which I’ll delete when I trash the old page).

When I change to default template I get the default sidebar but no menu to change it.
When I change to feature plus sidebar I get the sidebar but also at the top of the page I get giant rotating photos- I think that’s from a plugin. I used to be able to disable that somewhere down the page but I can’t find it on this page.

Holy moly, I went to another page, adjusted the sidebar on that page, then went back to this page and the option re-appeared. You must be good luck.
Now the only question is, how do I move the sidebar to the left for the page:

Hi. Thank you again. I put that into Appearance > Customize > Advanced Settings (Custom CSS) at the bottom of my css and it didn’t work.

I moved it to the top and it seems to work, but the sidebar is not all the way to the left. There’s a white space to the left of the sidebar. Which wouldn’t be terrible if the sidebar were also white but the sidebar and the top (menu area) are a different color. And on a wide screen it’s even more noticeable. Is there a way to make it flush left?

I now notice the the right sidebars aren’t flush right either but honestly it’s been years and I never noticed it for the right side. So that’s not an issue. But for left side sidebars it does stand out.

It is likely that you have some css that is conflicting which is why the css wasn’t working when you placed it at the bottom. It seems to me like your sidebar is flush to the left. Can you send a screenshot?

Oh I see. You’e using a smaller screen so that space is mall. I’m seeing it large, as the container stretches on either side. Are you wanting the content to be fullwidth? If so, you can use this css:

In your current css, it looks like you have an extra bracket in your first css snippet. Here:

Remove the second closing bracket. Then in your last two css snippets you actually need closing brackets. Here:

FYI the photo was a normal-sized and width 17″ monitor. On my widescreen monitor it also had the white space to the sides. Your css fixed it. Thanks!
So I get it- the {} are like <> in html- for every one that opens a code you need one to close it.

The only thing that confuses me is that the gray color at the top, which is also continued onto the sidebars, sometimes leaves a white gap.
For example https://www.ivystandup.com/corporate
leaves a white space at the top right
whereas https://www.ivystandup.com/testimonials the top gray and side gray touch each other.

I’m sure there’s something in the way the pages are configured that makes a difference but I can’t figure it out.
