    Hello,

I’m getting a “soft 404” error in Google Search console for the custom 404 page that my 404 Solution plugin redirects broken pages to. Google only started giving me this error when I submitted a Yoast-generated site map to Google Search Console a few days ago. How do I get the page to generate a 404 error instead of a 200 success status? Thank you.

    Jeremy

Are you using a different plugin to create the custom 404 page, or did you create a normal page named “404page” and redirect to it with the 404 Solution plugin?

    Hey Jeremy,

If you’re using a normal page and the 404 Solution plugin to redirect to it, then please try version 2.30.1 as I’ve updated the code to change the status to 404 in this situation. Let me know if it works.

If you’re using a different plugin for the custom 404 page then probably it will have to be that plugin that handles it, but let me know which plugin so I can test it.

    thanks

    Aaron,

Thank you for the quick response. I’m using a normal custom page and having 404 Solution redirect to it, I believe. I’ve just updated from 2.29.9 to 2.30.1. I’ll let you know if Google validates the fix.

    Did it work?
