I’m not getting to that page at all. Is the wp-admin address supposed to take me there?

If it’s your blog, and you are the admin, then yup .. you should see that sort of screen ….
Was it a straightforward install ?
Have you created a new user, or renamed yourself on the blog ?

I used Fantastico to install it at Bloghosts.
I don’t think I renamed myself, though it did ask me at one point to give myself a nickname in addition to my real name.
When I try to go to the wp-admin page, it takes me to wp-admin/profile/php and asks me to update my profile. I filled it in, it says it is updated, but now I can’t get beyond that. It keeps taking me back to “Profile”

Odd .. it should not have ‘asked’ you that.
    What version is it ?
It’ll be at the bottom of the admin screen, or ‘View Source”

    It’s 1.2
May it have been Bloghosts that was “asking”?
Someone suggested I need to get to a page with wp-admin-from
but that didn’t work, either. Gives me a Not Found

    Very odd.
You could try using phpmyadmin to change your level to 10, or you could erase that install and start over.
When WP installs (on 1.2) it asks you for nothing. It does give a box where it ‘has guessed’ the url, and it’s usually right, but apart from that, it asks you to give no info at all.

    Hi all,
Someone just sent me to mysite/wp-admin/post.php and it tells me that because I am a newcomer, I have to wait to be “promoted” before I can post.
Is this what is going on, perhaps? The menu on this page only allows me to go to “Profile,” “My Site” and “Logout”, just like the Profile page I’ve been stuck on.

Ah… I think I know what’s going on. Try logging in again as admin, then promote your user name to a higher level.

Stupid question of the day: How? I can’t seem to log in as anything other than what I originally logged in as. Where do I go to do this?

    After install you *should* have seen a screen with this type of thing on it;
“Now you can log in with the login “admin” and password “36201c”.”
If you didn’t, the install was bad.
I would delete and start again.

Never saw that. How should I install again? Should I use Fantastico again?

Wow! Podz is on the ball today! That was fast! LOL…

ceecee – I assume you can upload files to your webspace ?
If so, do it that way – but you will have a file called ‘wp-config.php’ inside your current setup. This needs saving as it has your connection details inside it.

I reinstalled and I’m in! I think I was just confusing usernames, passwords, admin names, etc.
Thank you so much for all the help and support.
