getting the askimet key

  • I went to the wordpress.com site and in order to access an askimet key I have to sign up. I host my own wordpress so I don’t need to create a blog with wordpress hosting. How do I get a key and then where do I put it in admin after getting it.

  • You were on the right track.

    Signup for an account at wordpress.com. Yes, that gives you a blog there. No, you don’t need to ever use it. You just need to log into it once to get the key (I think it is emailed to you as well).

    handy, I am helping someone set up a blog.

    She use to have her askimet key but she lost it (She was using the free/relicating version of WP).

    Can I use my Askimet key on her blog, or if not, how can she get a new one?

    If she logs into her WordPress.com account, she should see the key on one of the admin pages (Users I think?)
