Hello all. I’ve just noticed some odd and a bit annoying on my website, and I wonder if anyone can help me to fix it.

In the footer, on the right, I have three links (about, Product Info and Contact). For some reason that I am unable to work out, these three links (and apparently only these three links – the others are all fine) have a lot of gibberish at the end of the URL. This has been added to the end of the slug I created for each page.

I asked this question on the wordpress forum, and a kind person told me this:

“The parameters behind the URL come from the Google Tag Manager integration in your website. Since you are using the Google Sitekit plugin for this, I would recommend that you contact their support forum for clarification”

I’d be so grateful for any clues about how to fix this. Thanks

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reaching out @beckseden. After reviewing your site I can see the additional parameters passed when clicking on some of your links. These additional URL parameters which you’re referring to are party of cross domain tracking with Google Analytics, typically used to ensure variations of your site URL are attributed to the same Analytics property. It’s common for users of sites with language variations such as your own, subdomains using the same Analytics property, or AMP users who have a canonical (non AMP) and an AMP version.

You’ll find more information on this below:
    https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/devguides/cross-domain.

Note also that these additional parameter are not specific to Site Kit, and it’s not the plugin that’s adding these, with configurations at Google Analytics level or variations of your canonical URL typically adding these parameters, which are safe and not unexpected. You can check for any configurations at Analytics level too if you wish, as it’s not Site Kit itself adding these.

If you need further assistance checking your Analytics configurations from analytics.google.com, for any cross domain tracking configurations, you can reach out at the Google Analytics Help Center, where the product experts would have more insights than we have here in Site Kit plugin support.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Hi James. You are being incredibly helpful, thank you. I shall look into it.

The language thing – I had no idea I had set up language variations, and I’m not sure that is needed, so I shall try to remove that first. It’s a bit mysterious that only some links have this gobbledigook added. (Can you tell I’m not an expert?) ??

I shall get in touch with google analytics, thank you.
