Gift / send points to other users

  • I’ve had a look and can’t find anything relating to this so this may be a feature request. ??

    Is it possible for users to send points to other users?

    I’d like users to be able to include an optional short message.

    It’d be good if it was restricted to only sending points from their own balance. e.g You have 200 points. Share the love and send some points to a friend.

    There could be an event that awards points once a user has sent a certain number of points. e.g. ‘You have sent 100 points to other users so we have awarded you 10 ‘good samaritan’ bonus points!’

    It’d also be great if you could somehow display a table of user transactions.

    e.g.

    User A sent User B 10 points for ‘Helping me with xyz…’
    User C sent User D 20 points for ‘Being totally awesome…’

    Finally I am using Buddypress so if this could integrate in anyway that would be great. e.g. send points via the member profile / directory. Only send points to people who you are friends with.

    The ability for users to transfer points has been suggested before, but your detailed request is very helpful. This is a feature that I plan to add in the future, hopefully fairly soon. You can vote for it here: https://trello.com/c/nRK8THqa/59-donations

    Cool. I’ll let you know when I begin working on this feature. I may have a big project coming up that will take 1-2 months, so it might not be until after that. I also have to decide whether this feature belongs in core or whether it should be an extension. If it is a feature that only a portion of WordPoints users really need, probably it will go an extension so as not to clutter up the main plugin. Any thoughts on that?

    Tough call. If it was in core I think people would use it, however some people would likely want to be able to turn it off, in which case an extension may make more sense. It’s 50/50 for me. Sorry that’s not helpful!

    Hmmm.. that’s probably true.

    Definitely if it was in core there would be an option to turn it off.

    Of course, if it is an extension, it can always be merged into core eventually. So maybe I’ll have it start as an extension anyway, and then see where to take it from there.

    I’ll decide for sure once I actually start building it. ??
