  • Hey @robbie,

Thanks for using The Events Calendar, I’m happy to help! I will be doing some testing on my end to see if I can replicate this. However, I would like to get some more information from you, if I can:

-First, if you could please test for conflicts by following this documentation? Let me know what you find. This will help me determine how deeply we need to look into the specific configuration of your site, or if this is a bug. ??
-Can you send me a link to your site so I can see this firsthand? I can often be more helpful in giving solutions to problems I can see and interact with.

    Thanks!

    Hi Shelby, @shelbelliott
Thanks for your reply. I followed the instructions on the testing for conflicts page – changed theme to Twenty Sixteen, deactivated all other plugins, etc – but got the same result which you can see here (just a testing site): https://robbielink.com/wordpress/events/
The Jan. 31 and Feb 2 dates were created in The Events Calendar and they are active links as expected. The Feb 10 and 11 dates were created in Gigpress and imported automatically by your plugin into TEC but as you can see are not active links – can not view their respective pages. Just in case there was a conflict I created one more date in Gigpress after deactivating plugins, etc – Feb 16 – but same result. I’ve since reactivated plugins and changed theme back to Twenty Seventeen.
Gigpress did successfully create it’s own pages which you see here: https://robbielink.com/wordpress/upcoming-performances-2/

I’m moving from Drupal to WordPress and importing data into this site. In Drupal I was happily using FullCalendar but I’ve not figured out a way to use that on WordPress. I picked Gigpress because it gathered the same kind of data that FullCalendar did in Drupal so I was able to import all my artists and venues into Gigpress which I could not figure out how to do in TEC. So, I’d like the continue using Gigpress for creating dates but also display in TEC (unless you have a better suggestion for a calendar view which Gigpress apparently does not do).

    Thanks!
    Robbie

Any update on this? It would be great if the GigPress integration worked!

    Hey Robbie,

Thanks for hanging in there on this one, sorry for the delay. I’ll log this in the system as a bug and reach out to my team to try and get a work around in the meantime!

Thanks again for your patience here!

Thanks, Shelby! I was beginning to think this was going nowhere. I’ll look forward to hearing about a solution and I don’t mind doing any testing that will help.

    Hi Robbie,

I realize it’s been a while since you posted this, but you left a note in the reviews page which I just saw and I wanted to get back to you.

The first thing I’d note is that it sounds like the integration is working as expected: it does not link to the show page and wasn’t written to do that – so there’s actually no bug here (nor was it an oversight – this was a deliberate decision).

Most importantly, it was written to help demonstrate how such an integration between the two plugins could be achieved: the hope was that in some cases it could be used as a ‘drop in’ to provide an alternative to the regular GigPress shows list but that for those cases where adjustment was needed, users would feel empowered to take it and use it as a foundation piece that they could build on as needed.

There is in fact a filter hook – tec_gigpress_month_view_listing – which you could use to modify the GigPress show text that is included in the calendar if you wish to make it link to the show page or anything else ??

Custom development work though is beyond what we can typically help with here in the forums, but I did want to note both those things (that it is not a bug and that you can tweak it further if you wish).

Demo plugins like this one are provided on as “as is” basis and we do not provide in depth support for them.

I hope that clarifies things – and our apologies for the delay in getting you this answer.

Thanks, Barry, for your reply. I think that there was an expectation among many folks using GigPress that the acquisition by Modern Tribe would lead to a full integration with TEC so when I saw news of this plug-in that was the expectation I had – that GigPress events would work just like regular TEC events and be clickable within the calendar. I appreciate you pointing out that I could alter the code to make this work myself but since I have moved on from GigPress and created custom post types to make my own event listings I have no need to go back.
However – since I assume events that GigPress creates are also custom post types and since I use TEC on several of my clients sites (who have different needs than I do) I would be very interested in finding out if I can make a plugin to integrate my own events with TEC. As with GigPress, my own event listings only generate an upcoming event list page but no calendar view. If there is any documentation you can point me to that would help with this I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Robbie

    Hi Robbie,

I can definitely understand why that assumption might be made — but this was not and is not on our roadmap.

With our demo plugin we wanted to show some of the possibilities for integration and we also wanted to provide a blueprint of sorts that others could build on if it interested them, but so far as we’ve been able to observe there hasn’t been too much interest or uptake in this.

since I assume events that GigPress creates are also custom post types

In fact, they’re not – they are a completely custom implementation and it isn’t possible to interact with them via the normal WordPress API.

As with GigPress, my own event listings only generate an upcoming event list page but no calendar view. If there is any documentation you can point me to that would help with this I would greatly appreciate it.

That sounds like a fun project! It’s definitely custom development territory, though, and I’m afraid we don’t have any documentation that really covers this.
